The Design Miami/ Visionary Award was presented to SHoP Architects in 2016.
SHoP Architects has developed a bold portfolio of projects that combine evocative architecture, philanthropic initiatives, sustainable development, and innovative practices and entrepreneurship. The firm is recognized for their signature employment of next-generation fabrication and delivery techniques, acute attention to detail, and imaginative programmatic concepts.
SHoP’s work was celebrated at Design Miami/ 2016 with an original design for a pavilion that served as a public plaza at the entrance to the fair. For the project, titled Flotsam & Jetsam, SHoP collaborated with multiple partners in order to realize its forward-thinking use of 3-D printing and complex structural engineering, including Branch Technology, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Dassault Systèmes, and Thornton Tomasetti. Once the fair ended, Flotsam & Jetsam was reinstalled in the Miami Design District’s iconic Jungle Plaza to house an outdoor cultural event space for long-term public enjoyment, illustrating SHoP’s commitment to improving the quality of public life with design and architecture.
